Downriver Walleye Federation

Southeast Michigan’s Premier Walleye Fishing Club!

About The DWF

Getting To Know Us

  • The Downriver Walleye Federation (DWF) was founded in 1990 as a nonprofit sportsman’s club with the purpose of uniting walleye anglers that focus their efforts on the Detroit River and Lake Erie. Our primary purpose is to provide the opportunity for our members to exchange ideas and information about what is probably the finest walleye fishing in the world.
  • We hold a general membership meeting on the third Monday of each month except November. We take November off to accommodate our many members who are also deer hunters.
  • Our December meeting is always set aside for our annual Christmas Party and our June meeting is our annual fish fry.
  • Additionally, the DWF presents very high quality seminars at its general membership meetings, held on the 3rd Monday of every month except November. Our presenters include professional anglers and charter captains as well as our own “home grown” jigging, trolling and handlining experts. We also feature a variety of other “subject matter experts” covering topics like tackle advice, the health and well being of our waterways and boat/gear maintenance. Our programs are outstanding!
  • Our membership meetings and most other events now take place at the Gibraltar Community Center in Gibraltar, Michigan.
  • Each year the DWF hosts a number of club walleye and perch tournaments. The tourney fees are low, but the level of competition is high. From river jigging to handline trolling to deep water trolling tactics on Lake Erie, DWF members can do it all and are willing to share their knowledge and techniques with their fellow members.
  • Each year we participate in a number of Outdoor shows and events such as the Ultimate Fishing Show and Outdoorama. These events provide a wonderful opportunity for our members to interact with the public and share info about our Club.
  • The Club is governed by a group of officers and a Board Of Directors; all elected by the membership during October of each year.
  • A number of our members are also licensed Charter Captains. In addition to the knowledge and current information they bring to our membership, many of them also offer discounted trips to our members.
  • The last thing we’ll mention here is that the DWF is very involved in our local community. This involvement includes lot’s of volunteer work and financial support for kids fishing events, veterans fishing events, high school competitive fishing teams, environmental cleanup/awareness programs and other similar activities. Our members are always ready, willing and able to support our area in a variety of ways!
